Glossary
Short meanings of words you will see in CourierCop and on your courier bills.
AWB
Air Waybill number. The tracking number of one shipment. Every row on your bill has one. CourierCop uses it to match a billed row to your Shopify order.
Chargeable weight
The weight the courier bills you for. It is the higher of the dead weight and the volumetric weight, rounded up to the next slab. If it is above what you expected, the finding says "Billed weight above expected".
COD
Cash on delivery. The customer pays the courier when the parcel arrives. Couriers charge a COD fee: a fixed amount, a percent of the order value, or the higher of the two. A COD fee on a prepaid order is wrong. The COD fee should also be reversed when a COD parcel comes back as RTO, if your contract says so.
Dead weight
The real weight of the parcel on a scale, with its box and filler. Also called actual weight or physical weight.
NDR
Non-delivery report. The courier raises it when a delivery attempt fails, for example the customer was not available. Your contract may allow some free attempts. Fees beyond that are shown as "NDR fees beyond your contract".
RTO
Return to origin. A parcel the customer refused, or that could not be delivered, sent back to you. Couriers charge for the return. That charge should follow your rate card, and it should not be charged on a parcel that was delivered.
Slab
A weight step used in pricing, for example 0.5 kg. Many rate cards give a price for the first slab and a price for each additional slab. A 1.2 kg parcel with a 0.5 kg slab is billed as 1.5 kg, which is three slabs. Some rate cards use fixed brackets instead (up to 0.5 kg, up to 1 kg, and so on).
Volumetric weight
Weight worked out from the size of the box: length × width × height in cm, divided by the volumetric divisor (often 5000). A big, light box can be billed on this weight. Example: a 40 × 30 × 20 cm box is 24,000, which divided by 5000 is 4.8 kg, even if the parcel weighs 1.8 kg.
Volumetric divisor
The number your courier divides the box volume by. It is in your contract. Often 5000, sometimes 4000 or 2700.
Zone
A group of pincodes your courier charges the same rate for, such as Local, Metro or Rest of India. The zone depends on the pickup and delivery pincodes. CourierCop works out the zone from your rate card's pincode rules or zone list. If the courier bills a more expensive zone, the finding says "Billed zone differs from yours".
Rate card
The prices your courier agreed with you: price per zone and weight slab, COD fee, return charges, GST and so on.
Finding
A shipment that was billed above your rate card.
Claim
Your request to the courier to refund an extra charge. One claim covers one courier invoice.
Tolerance
A small difference that is ignored. It is ₹2 or 1% of the expected cost, whichever is higher.
